BUILDING COMMUNITY INDIANA

Building a better world one community at a time.

Building community starts small and close to home.

Building Community Indiana is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide residents of communities with assistance and support. Through established outreach programs and opportunities we help people become intentional contributors to the growth, development and love of an inclusive community.

The Building Community five-point program provides a starting place for people working together with shared understanding and expectations of building strong communities.

1. Personal Development

Our attention to personal development for the community focuses on book discussions and a speaker series. Topics related to individual, organizational, and social change nurture positive growth. Topics and areas include science and technology, politics, current events and history, religion and philosophy and arts and entertainment. You can join our online discussions by signing up under Join BCI Reads!

2. Hospitality

How can a focus on hospitality create the relationships that build and transform communities? We’ve found that genuine connection is key to building community. Hospitality can range from welcoming new residents and organizing small neighborhood gatherings to larger local and regional festivals and events throughout the year. These facilitate real-life connections by encouraging people to come together.

3. Culture & Inclusion

Building an inclusive community is not an event that has a beginning and an end. It is a process that continuously evolves. We want to help community members nurture and foster the development of an inclusive community so that everyone feels valued and known. Inclusive communities are safe communities, and safe communities encourage intellectual curiosity, respectful dialogue, and personal growth.

4. Spirituality

Religious traditions are constellations of beliefs, practices, and institutions used to describe a common type of religion. Religious traditions are broad understandings of the supernatural produced in societies and practiced by groups and individuals.

Come on a journey, as we visit twelve churches over a 90-day period. These pilgrimages occur two times a year. Pick a pilgrimage that best fits your schedule.

5. Civic Engagement

Civic engagement in a community involves developing and cultivating collaborations with community partners. These partnerships are for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of alliance and reciprocity.
